Seawall Motel and Suites

This charming motel will be our home away from home. They offer continental breakfast in the main area. They are on the quiet side of the Island and very close to the Bass Harbor lighthouse!

Itinerary

During this incredible workshop we will focus on providing not only an incredible photography tour but also a tour of the park itself.

I want to make sure you're able to experience the park in unique ways you've never experienced before.

The goal is to have at least 2 nights of astro-photography but this is weather permitting of course.

Day one

Meet and greet at the hotel at 3pm. Check in is at 4. We'll check into our rooms and head out for a dinner at the Jordan pond restaurant at 530. We'll wrap up dinner for sunset photos and hike up the North bubble lookout for milky way photos. The is a moderate hike taking approximately 30 minutes and is straight up hill. We will return as soon as everyone feels confident in their photos.

Day two

Get excited for the puffin and lighthouse tour! 9:30am-12:30pm. we need to be in bar harbor ready to board by 9.  Than we will break for lunch and regroup for a Park loop we Acadia's Park Loop road stopping at many of the iconic looks outs. We will hopefully have time for a quick nap before grabbing dinner and night night 2nd night of astro.

Day Three

Time to go to Acadia's Schoodic district; a separate more secluded area of the park. There is a Loop road around the Schoodic district with many beautiful fields and ocean cliffs. We'll have our 1st round of post processing the day and head over to the Schoodic peninsula for sunset and astro.

Day Four

Day four can be a final round up day where we visit spots we missed or we would like to return too. We will have our 2nd round of post processing lessons and our final potential night for astro photography. We will head to bed early or we could stay up all night on top of Cadillac mountain.

Day Five

We'll wrap up with workshop with Sunrise on Cadillac mountain. Sunrise on Cadillac Mountain is a right of passage in Acadia. Sunrise is around 430 am and it will be swarming with people so get that eraser tool ready.  After that we'll head back to the motel and check out of the rooms and this will complete the workshop.

This is a general itinerary and subject to change based on weather and group activities.

Traveling To The Workshop

Driving yourself or flying to the workshop will be the best way to get here.

The two major airports in Maine are

Portland International Jetport

This is a 3.5 hour drive from where we are staying.

Bangor International Airport

1.5 mile drive from where we are staying

Both airports have rental cars to plan for your trip. There are busses to Bar Harbor from Bangor and with good communication we'll do our best to pick you up if you so chose. Keep us in the loop.

You can also plan with other attendees on commuting with them if your flights arrive at similar times.

Make sure to pack for cool nights and warm days. See other sections for what to bring for general advise.

Hiking Trails

Acadia National Park has 158 miles of hiking trails with a varying degree of difficulty. These are a few of my favorite trails I would love to show you!

  • Hunters beach

    • a very quick 15 minute .6 mile hike which opens up to an incredible rocky beach with perfect view south. my favorite hidden gem.

  • Great head lookout

    • a 1.6-1.8 mile trail considered moderate. it think this trail is fairy easy as there is no step elevation gain up is full of great look outs!

  • Bass Harbor lighthouse

    • the shortest trail of them all but once you get off the path it's purely rock scrambling to get to your best angles. it's totally worth going to!

  • Bubble rock

    • one of my favorite hikes in Acadia with incredible views over Jordan pond. This is the most difficult hike due to elevation gain but is very short bout 1 mile. I would consider this an intermediate to difficult hike.

  • Jordan Pond

    • the Longest hike we could and it's more of a walk than a hike. little to no elevation gain but it's a 3.3 mile loop. very easy.
